Raven Call edition by Matthew Angelo Romance eBooks

Late one night, cruising through the streets of New York City, Ren hears a cry for help—in his mind. Investigating the cry, Ren finds an Esper under attack by the very motorcycle gang hunting Ren. Despite the risk, Ren risks everything to save the Esper and manages to get them both away.
But doing so has brought the full weight of the motorcycle gang down on them, and it's going to take a lot more than their combined magic if they hope to escape once and for all and see if they could be more than strangers united by strife.

I was really looking forward to reading it, due to the blurb, but I have to say that the story didn't quite meet my expectations.
There were some small editing issues, some very formal speech patterns that felt stilted, and no real chemistry between the two MC's, except for insta-love. I'm not a fan of 1st person, for the fact that they often fall into the habit of talking to the reader, like this one did, and using a strange word choice that wouldn't be natural in regular third person, but which is somehow forced out during 1st.
On the plus side, I loved the detailed knowledge of the motorbikes, the good balance of offering just enough description and setting without going overboard. I thought the exposure, slow exploration and the eventual explanation of the magical aspects was great.
Overall, I was torn. I liked the overall story and didn't mind at all that we didn't get a conclusion at the end, as that normally bugs me to no end. I liked that it was one of those “might never happen, but let's hope it does” scenarios and that they both had hope, but there was really no need for a huge big revelation of what the result would be. The mystery was nice.
I loved that the characters were a little different to other stories – a Japanese-American MC in Ren and a genderfluid MC in Zane. They both displayed enough personality to make me interested in them, but I missed the chemistry that could have been there. I think the story was just too short for anything but insta-love, but some nice flirting or spark would have been nice, outside of that first instance.
A solid 3, which could have been much more with a few extra pages. I'd jump to read it if it was turned into a novel, though.
I enjoyed reading this book. I believe it is part of a series and am looking forward to reading the next chapter or book.
